Well last week went pretty well, a lot of homesteading chores were done. Talk about feeling accomplished. and as I was busy busting butt, couldn't help but think back to when this journey started and how far we have come. Compost, chickens, garden plot done, outbuilding repairs. chicken coop repairs. slowly but surely I am winning the war to eat local and organic. fussy MIL's and Hubz being dragged along , is the little changes. Finally got the MIL to stop buying fako margarine stuff. she now knows what I mean when I put EVOO on a grocery list. baby steps. baby steps :P
So while we may not be where I "think we should" , which is always a problem with my perfectionist issues, sometimes I have the hardest time enjoying the journey, too focused on the end. Not this journey , nope, enjoying every last baby step on our journey to self-suffiency.
and speaking of a journey of self suffiency : I have been a fan on Facebook of Chicken Thistle Farm for a while, but for some reason just came across their podcast, loving it , have been listening to them from the top pretty much nonstop , loading onto the Mp3 player to accompany me on long hikes down dirt roads. If your are not familiar with them, go take a peek.
Made the oh so delish chicken parm meatballs that are roaming around pinterest ( what an addiction that website turned out to be, lol. though I love how it keeps my web roamings all organized. so much better than my old favorites folder in my browser!) I did a little modification, adding some cilantro and leaving out the fennel seeds. They were a big hit. 3 very different eating palates enjoyed one meal, that is what I call a culinary win!
and since the hubz just has to have his sweets and we love cooking from a show while watching the show, it made sense to make a batch of Jammy Dodgers, since we have been devouring Dr. Who lately. yes we came way late to the show, but we are more than making up for lost time!! They came out very yummy and were gone within hours, though I am now on the hunt for some cute star shaped cookie cutters that are smaller, the circles I used made a LARGE cookie.
I have been diggin sweat lately, have given up on the farce of a "diet" and just going with good ol' move that body, shake that booty mixed with eat fresh food, no packaged crap. slowly but surely am repairing the damage that years of hard living and bad habits have wrought. Who knew I would like sweat so much?Came across this artist and am absolutely in love with her stuff, so much it is hard to make up my mind which ones I ant!. Have put the hint out to hubz , since our 2 year wedding anniversary is coming up next month. One to go above my bedroom altar and the other is perfect for a workout room. Though is so hard to pick out just a couple, she has such lovely pieces, so colorful .
and there you have it, that is what has been going on around the homestead this week. Lot's of mowing, spring cleaning, cooking, dusting, playing with chickens, running in the field with the dogs. Date Night.( guess who got gussied up?)
