Monday Recap. Yums, and Linkie Poo's

Well last week went pretty well, a lot of homesteading chores were done. Talk about feeling accomplished. and as I was busy busting butt, couldn't help but think back to when this journey started and how far we have come. Compost, chickens, garden plot done, outbuilding repairs. chicken coop repairs. slowly but surely I am winning the war to eat local and organic. fussy MIL's and Hubz being dragged along , is the little changes. Finally got the MIL to stop buying fako margarine stuff. she now knows what I mean when I put EVOO on a grocery list. baby steps. baby steps :P

So while we may not be where I "think we should" , which is always a problem with my perfectionist issues, sometimes I have the hardest time enjoying the journey, too focused on the end. Not this journey , nope, enjoying every last baby step on our journey to self-suffiency.
and speaking of a journey of self suffiency : I have been a fan on Facebook of Chicken Thistle Farm for a while, but for some reason just came across their podcast, loving it , have been listening to them from the top pretty much nonstop , loading onto the Mp3 player to accompany me on long hikes down dirt roads. If your are not familiar with them, go take a peek.

Made the oh so delish chicken parm meatballs that are roaming around pinterest ( what an addiction that website turned out to be, lol. though I love how it keeps my web roamings all organized. so much better than my old favorites folder in my browser!) I did a little modification, adding some cilantro and leaving out the fennel seeds. They were a big hit. 3 very different eating palates enjoyed one meal, that is what I call a culinary win!

and since the hubz just has to have his sweets and we love cooking from a show while watching the show, it made sense to make a batch of Jammy Dodgers, since we have been devouring Dr. Who lately. yes we came way late to the show, but we are more than making up for lost time!! They came out very yummy and were gone within hours, though I am now on the hunt for some cute star shaped cookie cutters that are smaller, the circles I used made a LARGE cookie.

I have been diggin sweat lately, have given up on the farce of a "diet" and just going with good ol' move that body, shake that booty mixed with eat fresh food, no packaged crap. slowly but surely am repairing the damage that years of hard living and bad habits have wrought. Who knew I would like sweat so much?

Came across this artist and am absolutely in love with her stuff, so much it is hard to make up my mind which ones I ant!. Have put the hint out to hubz , since our 2 year wedding anniversary is coming up next month. One to go above my bedroom altar and the other is perfect for a workout room. Though is so hard to pick out just a couple, she has such lovely pieces, so colorful .

and there you have it, that is what has been going on around the homestead this week. Lot's of mowing, spring cleaning, cooking, dusting, playing with chickens, running in the field with the dogs. Date Night.( guess who got gussied up?)

Laundry , runaway dogs and pretty flowers

laundry on the line. check.
see that ? I am getting my chores done. AND
that nice big ol' patch of field behind the clothesline was just mere hours away from being tilled into the new garden. Thank Goddess for family friends with tractors! It helps doing the barter system. hubz went over and helped him cut down trees, so he came and  put the garden in. Now I can finally get my fingers in the dirt. moving on from years of container gardening. hot diggity dawg!

The boys were loving all the sun and me being outside. ( shortly after this pic was taken this handsome boy decided to run off into the woods, thus ending my hike. luckily he came home very quickly NOT smelling of dead things from the swamp!)

Took a walk into the woods, almost ran into a tree.hunting for the run away dog!

All in all a very lovey day. sunshine, breeze. flowers. trees. dogs. walks. and now? Now I get to soak in the bubble bath, put on my jammies and curl up with my book. How was your day?

Updates and pictures, oh my!!

I know, I know. Been far too long since I have blogged. but it was one of those things, the longer I didn't blog it just started taking over. add some Real life bull crap, laziness and is a recipe for disaster. But never fear, I am back. well sort of. the whole bye bye google reader, had me wondering if it was time to shop around for a new blog home. we shall see.

After what seemed like an unbearably long winter to my southern behind, we finally got some spring,. then it snowed. and I almost went batty. snow in May? clicking my ruby red's and begging to be back on southern ground. ( not happening, at least now right now, but oh some days I wish!)

Lots of changes going on around Kynd Valley. Sadly We lost Roopert. best darn rooster ever!! when we lost him, we also lost Mabel. so of course when the local farm and fleet had baby chooks, I couldn't resist. so 8 babies were brought home. everyone has been integrated, and the babies are no longer babies. of course me and the hubz have taken to calling them 'New Girls" , being the batty person i can be, they all are named. of course, I made it easy this time around and is in sets of 2 as in our golden laced wyandottes, are patty and selma. who is patty and who is selma? who knows? Our gorgeous California Grey Legghorn, Phoebe is looking more and more like Rooster Cogburn. all I have to say is he has some mighty big rooster shoes to fill!!

R.I.P Roopert <3
who would have thought this little guy would get in my heart so much?!!

See the gorgeous eggs we have been getting?

Miles is no longer the "fit in your bathrobe pocket" cute little thing we brought home. nope now he is Mr. Chunky

Ozzy and Hendrix are still spoiled big galoots.
See the happy? There is no smile like a pibble smile. truth.

Ozzy on the other hand, not nearly as happy. he does NOT like sharing me with Miles. pretty sure he would lead him to the swamp and abandon him if he thought he could get away with it.

Hera is stil her same old. grumpus hidey cat. she comes out of hiding for love maybe once a month. add some cat in heat caterwauling and well she is lucky I love her strange little behind. J/K we both love her very much. even the hubz with all his anti cat grumbles calls her Daddy's girl. yeah we are those kinda people. are pets are our 4 legged furry kids. ;)

So as you can see everyone is doing good here, now just to get back on a blogging schedule. What have you been putting off that you need to do?
